Fresh home furnishing ideas and affordable furniture - IKEA
Can healthy food make life at home better?
We love good food – and to innovate and develop delicious and nutritious food products. Our biggest inspiration? That with our possibilities and reach, we believe we can create a better everyday life at home by making tasty, healthy and sustainable eating affordable to everyone.
Fuel yourself with quality foods
Different foods have different nutrient contents, such as carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins and minerals. Our bodies need them all to function well, which means that eating a varied diet with more fibre and vegetables benefits our health in general. A base of foods with high nutritional quality, primarily from the plant kingdom (e.g. vegetables, legumes, fruit), is widely recognised as a healthy, balanced diet.
In Sweden, we like “lagom”
A healthy diet isn’t just about what we eat, but how much we eat. When we develop the IKEA food offer, our approach to a balanced diet is founded in the commonly used Swedish word “lagom” – not too much, not too little, but just right. And what’s not to like? “Lagom” portions both minimise food waste and contribute to better health.
We don’t decide what ‘healthy’ means. The definition needs to be science-based and grounded to be helpful both to our customers and us.

So, what does “healthy” really mean?
At IKEA, we use a science-backed food nutrition profiling system (IFNPS) when developing new products. It gives us a set of nutrition criteria for our whole range, from individual food items to snacks and meals. Each food category has three compliance levels: green, yellow, and red, with green being the level with the best nutrition quality.
The system measures:
- calories (kcal)
- saturated fats
- sugars
- salt
- fibre
Eat at our place – or yours
There are many good reasons over 500 million customers eat and buy food at IKEA every year. You can find delicious, desirable, healthy and sustainable food for different everyday situations as well as people’s individual needs and taste buds. Enjoy meals, snacks and desserts in our stores – or swing by the Swedish Food Market and bring it home. Families with children are especially important to us, and children’s nutrition principles are included in our food nutrition profiling system.
