How to arrange a summer party, part II: set the mood

Party coming up! See how you can let your home rise to the occasion, with a big welcome and a festive mood to match. (Find links to the rest of your celebration below.)

A colourful welcome

Set a first impression that will last throughout the evening. Besides a welcoming drink and delicious bites, get your guests involved right away by assigning them a colour, e.g. by their pick of napkin shade. There, you’ve just integrated mood with activities (keep reading to see how).

Give your guests the green light to DJ

Set up a DJ booth with a note explaining how to connect the Bluetooth speaker. With a variable light source, you now have your guests at your fingertips. When you switch the lighting to a specific colour – say purple – the “purple guests” are in charge of the music for a set time period.

A side table to steal the show

To enhance the atmosphere, make little islands that contrast with the semi-darkness of the surrounding room. A mix of greenery and (fireproof) LED candles becomes a magnetic corner to flock around.

Keep the neighbours happy

If the people living next door aren’t already in your home, it’s a good idea to keep the party contained. Bolster your curtains by clipping fabric or bedlinen onto the rod. Besides muffling excess sound, the textiles add both colour and club feel.

A guiding light to the refreshments

While the dance floor shifts in colours and darkness, other areas are better suited for functional light. Let bright lighting chains give a guiding glow that still adds to the electric mood.
