Meet Luis Gomez Barquin

Luis’s professional title is Product Design Developer. He oversees that the theme of a product launch is kept in check, leading design and content development of new products.

For a recent launch, the design for a single wool rug was deliberately left open. “We wanted to try something different. Normally we work with designers or ready-made patterns. Now we instead asked some of our weavers and suppliers directly to come up with suggestions,” says Luis. “This was specifically intended to bring their skilled craft to a wider audience.”

“A lot of great designs came in, but one stood out. When we inquired about it, it turned out that the inspiration was the actual, colourfully tiled wall of a house. The great design in combination with that backstory settled the matter, and the pattern truly is quite similar to its real-life original. The design was created by second-generation rug weaver Naushad Ali. On the finished rug, his signature is even printed on the label – along with a logo certifying that it’s a handmade product.”
