Weddings are a beautiful thing. The stress brought on from a sky-rocketing budget? Not so much. The good news is you can create a gorgeous meal your guests will rave about without leaving you with a pit in your stomach and a dent in your bank account. We enlisted the help of recipe developer and food stylist, Louise Ljung, to create a menu featuring some of our own IKEA Food items.
Get the festivities off to a refreshing start! Plan on having a couple of options available to suit your guest’s different tastes. We chose two cocktails that work just as well with a little spike as they do without.
Cocktail hour is nothing without a bite to eat. And while you don’t want to ruin everyone’s appetite with too much food, you certainly want to keep them satisfied (and impressed!) until the main course is served. Since folks will be socialising and catching up, as well as drinking, avoid foods that require cutlery. Finger foods are perfect for nibbling and mingling at the same time.
If ever there were a time to go all out with your table setting, it’s now! Mix things up a bit and serve a few items on small chopping boards. They’ll add a rustic touch and will earn you major points for creativity.
Bland chicken breast or over-cooked beef seem to be the hallmark of far too many wedding dinners. Might we suggest a nice stew? They somehow manage to walk the thin line between refined and filling. But best of all, they can be made in advance (hello, stress relief!) and reheated right before it’s time to sit down to eat.
Look, we all love a wedding cake. But when you’re throwing an intimate affair, a giant tiered cake can be a bit much. Individually portioned desserts served in beautiful glasses will make just as big of an impression, trust us.
