The tiny (1.89 square metres) sleeping spot

So your bedroom’s not quite a bedroom? Just because you sleep in an unconventional space, that doesn’t mean it can’t still be comfortable and highly functional. Here’s how to take a non-bedroom and make it the perfect place to recharge.

This little space is shared; it’s part walk-in closet, part bedroom. So to make it comforting and private, it’s important to really maximise the sleeping function. And the most important element of any bedroom? A super comfortable bed, of course. For a tight space, choose one with a double function. This bed has spacious built-in drawers.

With a space this small, storage might seem out of the question. Not so. Make smart use of the wall and add different sorts of shelves and hooks to both display (show that personality of yours!) and store your stuff. You may not have a bedside table, but a square wall cabinet can work just as well. Labelled boxes and bins keep smaller items tidy, while those drawers under the bed are perfect for everything from bed linens to sports gear (especially when you add some interior organisers).

It’s a shared space, sure. But you still need your privacy. Hang a blackout curtain to block light and create a cosy zone when you’re trying to sleep but your roommate is still up and about.

And what about your clothes? If your larger wardrobe is a shared unit (or if you just don’t have one at all), keep extra clothing items in the drawers under the bed. Interior organisers are extremely efficient and work wonders, maximising every little bit of space. Add a narrow laundry bag that fits between the foot of the bed and the wall, and a mirror, as well. It’s great for getting dressed, of course, but it also helps to give your space more depth and an airier feeling.
