Fresh home furnishing ideas and affordable furniture - IKEA
New collection fuses Japanese and Scandi style
TÄNKVÄRD is a beautiful new range of textiles, glassware and furniture designed to celebrate craftsmanship and make you feel good. Made using natural, sustainably-sourced materials, these are pieces you’ll love for a long time. Read on to see what’s in store…
Designed with ‘better habits’ in mind
“This collection is all about self-care and ‘better habits’,” says Akanksha Deo, the IKEA designer responsible for all the textile pieces in TÄNKVÄRD. “Embracing what is calming, pleasing, relaxing – going back to basic human needs. We wanted to create something that people can form an emotional connection with, something that will make them feel homely and warm.”
I really like the kimono – it’s an attractive piece and a new type of product for IKEA. It comes in two sizes, medium and large.
Touched by nature
All the TÄNKVÄRD pieces – bedding, furniture, seating and glassware – are made of sustainably-sourced natural fibre. IKEA designers Iina Vuorivirta and Nike Karlsson (pictured at the end) chose rattan for the furniture. “It’s wonderfully sustainable,” says Iina. “It’s low-key and humble, but also distinctive. Every detail and mark tells a story.”
Tactility is central to TÄNKVÄRD. IKEA calls it ‘material-ism’ – a celebration of nature’s finest materials through sustainable style that ages well. Textiles you want close to your skin.
TÄNKVÄRD blends Scandinavian freshness with Japanese calm. The result is perfectly imperfect: pieces that are a bit wrinkled with a pre-worn handicraft feel, making each piece unique.
Moveable beauty
“I like to think of TÄNKVÄRD as the rawness of nature brought indoors,” says designer Iina Vuorivarta. “Everything is simple in its design, yet so functional.” Rattan is light and easy to move around from room to room, meaning it’s flexible, sturdy and adapts to your changing needs beautifully.
Rattan is one of my favourite materials – it grows fast, brings livelihood to local communities in Indonesia and is naturally beautiful. We want our designs to highlight that natural beauty.
We love to see our customers get creative with our products. Go for it! But please note that altering or modifying IKEA products so they can no longer be re-sold or used for their original purpose, means the IKEA commercial guarantees and your right to return the products will be lost.
