Fashion an A-list dressing room
As a stylist to the stars (Madonna, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé), Bea Åkerlund knows the space you get dressed in is as much a part of your ‘look’ as what you wear. ‘It’s about individuality and creativity – two important cornerstones of OMEDELBAR,’ Bea says. ‘With a few pieces from the collection you can create a designer wardrobe or dress up your room in a new way,’ says Karin Gustavsson, creative leader for OMEDELBAR.
Invent your signature style
The collection has Bea’s name written all over it – from signature clothes hangers to big, bold lip-shaped pillows in red (because Bea won’t go without red lipstick, even in bed sometimes). The beauty of OMEDELBAR is that it’s easy to put your personal stamp on things, too. ‘It’s a collection for the people: a Bea + IKEA mash-up. I wanted it to be fun, relatable and accessible to everyone,’ says Bea.
Three lessons in self-expression Bea gave IKEA
- B bold ‘Sometimes there’s an explosion of colour in my work, but there’s always something unexpected,’ says Bea. OMEDELBAR’s designs are big, the colours are bold, and the patterns are even bolder!
- B brave ‘You need to dare to think differently and dare to take chances,’ says Bea. Some of Bea’s visions raised challenges, such as expensive materials, so IKEA designers responded by creating the company’s first ever mass-produced, 3D-printed product – the hand-shaped wall decoration.
- B who you are ‘This is a mantra I’ve lived with throughout my career – doing what feels right and following my heart,’ says Bea. ‘OMEDELBAR is a personal collection that speaks to the many but is still true to who I am. It’s been a collaborative dream – a balance between myself and IKEA. I hope it inspires people to think outside the box, to take a risk and have fun, to purchase something they’d never expect to find at IKEA. Simply put – to get people to live a little.’
