Make a blissful bed. Start by investing in a quality mattress with room to spread out. Natural mattress materials like cotton, latex and wool provide extra comfort and even out temperatures for a pleasant sleep. Eco-friendly bedding like linen and lyocell also keep you cool and dry. A bed frame made of untreated, solid wood is a lasting choice, because it’s a durable and renewable material that you can renew with some stain, too. For a soft focal point that hides extra storage, make a bedskirt from old curtains or fabric. Use boxes to declutter matching nightstands.

Create balance and airy calm. For the walls and layout, less is more. Stay within a tone range like our neutral beiges and calming greens. Use the same paint colour on every wall and be selective with decorations and displaying what you love. Think symmetrically and in pairs. Bring nature in and clean the air a bit with a few green plants and dried sprigs. Cover opposite walls with painted hook racks, so you can hang up a few of your favourite things and care for clothes (and the Earth) by airing instead of washing excessively.

Store more, stress less. Dedicate a wall for maximised storage with shelves and rods that you can customise, rearrange and reuse. Organisation helps you find what you want—and buy only what you need. A row of modern chests of drawers keeps things neatly stored, keeps dust away and keeps a clean line. A soft spot with cushions and a DIY mattress pad is good for reflection and reading, especially by a window or a lamp with LEDs that consume less energy. Use curtains to focus on owning moments, not things.
