Home visit: easy DIY dip-dye curtain update
Give your window a new look for summer without buying new curtains. Dip-dyeing is a quick and easy technique for adding colour and unique patterns to plain fabric. Here is blogger Hester’s step-by-step guide…
You will need: One pair of plain cotton curtains (Hester uses PÄRLBLAD), two large plastic containers, like the TORKIS flexi laundry basket, fabric dye and rubber gloves.
1. Before you begin dyeing your curtains, dip them in water to about two-thirds of the way up. This will create the gradual bleed of colour.
2. Fill one plastic container with dye mix (follow packet instructions) and the other with clean water.
3. Dip your curtains into the dye mix about one-third of the way up.
4. Add more dye and dip the curtains again to build up the colour on the ends.
5. Next, rinse the dyed section in the clean water to remove any excess dye.
6. Wring and hang the dyed curtains up to dry outdoors.
Tip: Hester covered her window seat in ORANGELILJA fabric to complement her new curtains.
