Home visit: add extra storage in an awkward space

Turn an unused corner into a valuable storage area for clothes and accessories. This under-the-stairs wardrobe shows how simple organisation ideas can create useful extra storage.

Tailor your storage

Add inserts to divide up the space inside a storage unit and make the most of every inch. Start by dividing your clothes and accessories into categories, then use inserts to customise your storage unit for each type of item. Add written labels or stickers so you can find the everyday essentials quickly.

Add useful extras

Create a dressing room and make-up station without taking up any extra floorspace. Fix a mirror to the wall, display jewellery on a pinboard, and stash hair and make-up products in a hanging organiser.

Divide what you have

Don’t waste easy-to-reach space on storing items you don’t use often. Instead, put them away in boxes in the dead space above a door. Add hooks to the back of the door for the items you need to grab on your way out.

Staying organised in a small space

Sylke sleeps on the sofabed in her living room, so her clothes storage is squeezed into one corner of her daughter’s bedroom. ‘The inserts make it easy to fit in all my bags and scarves, and they look nice too. Having a mirror and all my accessories displayed makes my mornings much easier.’ Tap below to see the rest of her compact family home.

We love to see our customers get creative with our products. Go for it! But please note that altering or modifying IKEA products so they can no longer be re-sold or used for their original purpose, means the IKEA commercial guarantees and your right to return the products will be lost.
