So you’ve got lots of style but not as much cash? No worries, here are some smart ideas you can use to create a high-quality, comfortable, functional living room for a lot less.

We really stretched our money as far as we could by picking multifunctional pieces.
Start with the epicentre: a plush sofa for unwinding. Then take it to the next level with some throws and pillows that add a soft and decorative touch. We chose this coffee table, not just for its good looks, but also because it makes a great place to stow your off-duty textiles. When it comes to artwork, simple is usually better. Hang a few rails behind the sofa to hang your artwork from; some simple clips and string will do trick. On the other side of the room, arrange artwork around your TV to make it look more integrated into the space.
Here’s the cool thing about colour coordinating your books: it makes the room appear tidier and feels a bit artistic at the same time.
Use the books themselves to help style the room by colour coordinating them. Then go low, adding shelving behind your sofa (it both saves space and hides the goods), as well as a shelf right along the top of it, where you can rest your movie night popcorn. And remember the rails you hung for artwork? Why not also hang a small basket to keep your remotes tucked away?
A simple, spacious table can be your answer to both dinnertime and office hours. Add some low shelves stocked with boxes to keep your work necessities, and some cabinets for tableware so you’ll have everything close by when you need it. Because the table is fairly understated, rely on designs with tons of character, such as this ceiling lamp, to make a bolder impact. Even larger plants can work wonders.
