Flexible seating

Gina can fit 12 people at her table, thanks to her mix of seating that includes a bench. ‘I enjoy hosting big get-togethers. Most of the time, we spend the whole evening around the table!’ Benches are great because there’s nearly always room for one more, and you can make them more comfortable by adding cushions.

Decorate with natural materials

Finding decorative things in nature can be fun – fill a vase with pine cones and scatter a few more across the table. Choose plates and bowls with patterns and colours that complement the natural theme. ‘I also collect old beer and water bottles of various heights to stick candles in; candlelight makes the table feel intimate and cosy, and makes the coloured glass twinkle!’ Gina adds.

Put down playful place markers

Make an everyday meal feel special by including place markers as part of your table setting to help each guest feel even more welcome – and ensure that everyone sits where you’d like them to! ‘I like to make a name card and fix it to a glass with a clip. These star-shaped ones are very festive,’ says Gina.

Wheel it all away

When you’re catering for more people than usual, laying the table can be time-consuming. Keep everything conveniently close to hand with a trolley.
