IKEA recalls GOTHEM lamps due to the risk of electric shock

2016-03-17 14:00

IKEA urges customers who have a GOTHEM lamp to immediately stop using it and to bring it back to any IKEA store for a full refund.

IKEA is recalling all GOTHEM floor and table lamps due to the risk of electric shock, after some examples of damaged cables in the lamps have been found. Damaged cables can lead to the metal body of the lamp becoming electrically live and thereby being a safety hazard.

Even if the lamp is working, IKEA urges all customers that have a GOTHEM lamp to immediately stop using it and to return it to any IKEA store for a full refund.

All three models of GOTHEM lamps – two table lamps and one floor lamp – are affected by the recall.

IKEA has not received any reports about people getting hurt, but has received incident reports from two customers and one store co-worker that have gotten electric shocks. Safe products are always an IKEA priority and we cannot accept the risk of any more incidents, and are therefore recalling the GOTHEM lamps to avoid injuries and to create awareness of the hazard.

The GOTHEM lamps have been sold on all IKEA markets since October 2015.

The GOTHEM lamps can be returned to any IKEA store for a full refund. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required. For more information, please visit www.IKEA.cn or contact IKEA toll-free 400-800-2345.

IKEA apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
