▲ Can 1,4 billion re-sealable plastic bags make a difference? We hope so, as we proudly present our first ever large-scale bioplastic product. It’s the all-round plastic bag ISTAD that is now made mostly of a renewable material from the sugarcane industry. The shift is expected to save about 75 000 barrels of oil yearly and will significantly reduce CO2 emissions.

▲ Although bioplastic costs more to produce than conventional plastic, it won’t show on the price tag. At IKEA we believe that everyone, not just a few, should be able to afford making sustainable choices.

▲ Being the first large-scale IKEA product made of bioplastic, ISTAD is an important step towards our goal of only using renewable or recycled plastics in our home furnishing products – while maintaining the same low price and good quality.
