Variety is the spice of life
Not so long ago, we decided to upgrade the whole concept of what food we should offer you at IKEA. So the successful launch of our vegetable balls in April 2015 marked a change of direction for us. Since then, we’ve been moving the IKEA food offer towards a wider offer of delicious, healthy and more sustainable food.
”We wanted to add a really good vegetarian alternative on our menu. More and more people choose vegetarian alternatives for different reasons – some to help the planet, others for health reasons. Our goal was to create something as appreciated as the loved meatball, but without animal content.” says Annika Dunnico, IKEA Food Product Developer and Project Leader.

Brainfood, like you’ve never seen before
Since seafood is part of our Swedish heritage, we were quite excited about introducing our new pulled salmon sandwich. It’s traditional Scandinavian, yet with a modern twist. We use not only the fillets, but also other parts of the prime meat, using as much as possible of this beautiful fish. Perfect for pulled salmon and a good source of omega-3 fatty acids. Healthy, responsibly sourced. And so delicious, we Scandinavians just didn’t feel right keeping it to ourselves.

Quality: It’s food you can trust and that you know is good for you. Sustainability: All our food is responsibly sourced so it’s people, animal and planet positive. Low price: And it’s affordable for the many people.
And we offer a taste of Sweden in all IKEA stores worldwide, with a special mix of local and global dishes that highlight seasonal ingredients.

The food journey continues
We’ll be visiting traditionally preserved Swedish foods. Environmentally friendly pickled, dried, and fermented vegetables. Super tasty, super healthy! And we’ll be making sure we make the most of those great parts of fish and chicken that are sometimes overlooked. Well, we can’t have so much taste, protein, omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins going to waste. Stay hungry!
