Home visit: create a relaxed outdoor dining area

Want to make space for entertaining outdoors this summer? See how multitasking furniture and textiles have turned this raised deck into an outdoor living area that is perfect for spontaneous gatherings.

Bring people together

Nici and Ben’s garden backs onto lush green bushland, so this summer they decided to transform their raised deck into a dining space to bring friends and family closer to nature. Choosing flexible furniture, like an extendable table and chairs that stack away neatly, will allow your outdoor dining area to grow and shrink along with your guest list.

My sons love being outdoors. Our extendable ÄPPLARÖ dining table is great for guests but also folds down to a perfect size for us to eat our meals outside together every evening.

Add home comforts

Textiles are key to giving an outdoor living area a more homey feel. As well as helping to define the space, a large rug feels good underfoot if you want to kick off your shoes. Nici and Ben move cushions between the benches and sofa to add comfort where needed.

We have monthly get togethers for friends and family on our deck. Everyone brings a dish and we get the BBQ going. The kids can play around us and it’s a great way to catch up.

We love to see our customers get creative with our products. Go for it! But please note that altering or modifying IKEA products so they can no longer be re-sold or used for their original purpose, means the IKEA commercial guarantees and your right to return the products will be lost.
